The Dongle is Ruining My Life and Other Reasons Why I’m Breaking Up With Apple

I drive a 2002 Toyota with a tape deck in the console. I have had the same laptop since 2012. I own many pairs of classic headphones and last year after my iPhone 6 ended up kicking the bucket I upgraded to an iPhone 8 (*cue internal scream*).

Having to buy a new phone is frustrating enough, (being able to upgrade with my cell phone provider made it a little bit of an easier process), however, knowing what I know now I would have never “upgraded” to another Apple product. The reason why? Apple decided to do away with the classic headphone adaptor outlet on the iPhone and left in its stead the plug for the charge cord… and that’s it. Along with your new iPhone (with no place to plug in your headphones) you get a similarly strange set of new headphones with lightning adaptors.

Now, this lightning adaptor headphone I could maybe get on board if there was a secondary port to charge your phone with, but of course, there isn’t. This leaves you having to make the difficult decision: to listen or to charge? God forbid we do both at once.

With this new lightning headphone adaptor, I now am left with multiple headphone options for my devices and neither are compatible with the other.
Certainly, there is a solution in all this, one which I am vehemently opposed to.
