I love planners, I always have. At school I looked forward to being able to use my school-assigned agenda, writing down all my assignments, due dates, sports practices and social engagements. Now in my adult life I work a very unpredictable schedule and my work days vary week-to-week with no real discernible pattern. The planners that I once loved now lay unused and I found myself limited and restricted by conventional planner weekly formats.

Some planner fan favourites include Erin Condren or the Happy Planner. I found the planners themselves to be extremely cumbersome, in addition to some being filled with extraneous pages of quotes and accessories which was more than what I required for the day-to-day. The main hiccup was that their weekly / hourly formatting didn’t really work well for me as my work day is lengthy and I found it more helpful to look at my work schedule in a monthly view.

So, I decided to forge on and try a planner that only had monthly calendar spreads. However, again, I felt limited by the small amount of space and found it difficult to frequently use. It was soon abandoned.

Enter the bullet journal.

I was introduced to the idea of the bullet journal through the fantastic videos of a Toronto-based Youtuber by the screen name…
